The Epic Heat Wave

I LOVE Summer, trust me when I say I love summer and mean it. I was born in the middle of a snow storm on a very cold February night and I love Summer.

However, with that said I cannot express how much heat waves ruin every part of summer I love. I enjoy sitting outside in the hot sun and tan, or eat lunch or just hang out with friends. But when the weather threatens to literally cause me breathing problem I being to highly dislike it.

Not only does the excessive sweating make the idea of sitting outside to eat totally disappear from my mind, it causes finding clothing for work so difficult.

I mean really i just want to wear a bathing suit, if only it was appropriate, ( oh, how I wish it was). But since it is not only frowned upon but I'm assuming against work conduct I cannot. So since I'm clearly in need of inspiration I look to J's Everyday Fashion (http://www.jseverydayfashion.com/) and Get Jessed Up (http://getjessedup.blogspot.com/). Talk about inspiration, these blogs help me to get through any work week; even the heat filled, drenched in sweat kind of weeks.
Hope they can be a little slice of inspiration to you as well.

Summer Romance

Now a full year out of college and into the "real" dating world, I realize that though summer is the perfect time to date. However, I find it's nearly impossible to fit dating into my actual schedule. I mean really I find myself either traveling or making plans with friends or family.
Summer time seems to be the only time everyone is available to hang out. Wishing there were more hours to the day, it would be nice to go on a nice picnic date or dinner by the ocean, but those times are booked by family.
So adieu summer flings, alas I have no time for you.

The Simple Things In Life

At a certain point in my life having a million plans going from event to event was what i considered fun and a great use of my weekend. Well how things have changed, as this past weekend was my Moms birthday we opted for the simpler things in life. We spent Friday night just hanging out at home watching some of her favorite movies and WE (more like my little sister) made dinner, while she relaxed. The rest of our weekend was filled with just relaxing and spending time together, and since its summer it obviously meant we spent sometime with the sun.

Just my mom, my sister and I sitting on the beach taking in the sun with a magazine and picnic at hand. Then of course we had dinner with her friends and family, just a simple dinner at the Seaport. For my mom this understated day was simply perfect.

This weekend I realized how the simple things in life really do matter, the understated sometimes gets washed away and forgotten. So next time you have a million plans for your weekend, take a moment, throw away all those plans pull up a seat and relax. You will understand how refreshing it can be sometimes.

Fun in the Sun

Long gone were the days of summer fun...well I thought...as I am the only one of my friends that does not have summer Friday's, I thought the Summer was a goner for me.

Well that was till I realized if i throughly used up every inch of Friday (from 6pm on) , Saturday and Sunday I could at least have a fraction of the Summer fun I long. Boy have figured out how to enjoy every moment. Now in mid - July I have a pretty great base tan...and I have almost gone through my entire summer wardrobe. So note to self and all those who are spendign their first full summer working a 9-5 job the secret is to wake up at a decent hour on Saturdays and enjoy every moment of the sun!

Files Stacked High

It has officially been a bit over 6 months since I began my first "real" gig in public relations. Boy has it been a roller coaster.

Recently a study by CareerCast.com showed Public Relations professionals to have the second most stressful job behind air plane pilots. How true that is, I don't think a day has passed that their hasn't been a bit of stress from my job. With that said, there also has not been a day when something fun and exciting has also occurred. With everyday comes a new experience, a new lesson learned.

Starting out at a boutique agency has allowed me the opportunity to learn about many things big firms would never give me the opportunity to do. The everyday relationship with clients, creating agendas, media alerts, press releases to speaking with reporters. So here's to the second most stressful career and a lifetime of experiences.

Good Bye Sand and Sun

Just a year ago I was planning spring breaks and summer vacations this year I am envying those on vacation. As I sit at my desk typing away and answering phones I look out at the window and wish to be those sitting out on the bench. But the time has long passed of the days when I can just lounge around on the steps of Hendricks Chapel with my Iced Coffee and shades.

Today I look at photos in slight jealsouy as I wish for the sun to be hitting my face and the sand in my toes. Counting down the days till I can take vacation. As my friend once said "I thought college was going to get me ready for the real world!" Clearly they forgot to mention in the subclause it does minus vacations, three day weekends and random snow days (those don't exist in the real world).

So here is my official farewell to Spring Break, Winter Break, Three Day Weekends and any other vacation I became so accustomed to, thanks for "preparing" me for the real world College!

Hello Real World...

After several months of interviewing and applying to jobs, I finally joined the 9 to 5 or in my case the 9 to 6ish (usually after 6) work force. I landed a job in Public Relations and as of January 3rd I started my first paid full time position in PR, boy was i excited to rip off the green apron. Not that I there was anything wrong with the green apron or my five years working at Starbucks, but it was nice to not be making lattes or serving coffee. For once I was on the other side of the counter, which was actually weird the first few days. After a few weeks it became the norm for me and with my daily routine changed up.

With my dream of finally hitting it "big" did not completely fall as planned it has been better than the green apron. Finally using the skill and degree I worked so hard for I was finally going to be using my skills. It has been an interesting four months. From moving into new office space, learning how to connect wiring (like printers and wifi) and keeping the busy schedule of my boss I have been gaining lots of experience. Every day has been filled with new learning and the with every day I learn something new about myself.

So stay tuned as I tell you my experience in a new PR agency that's just starting out as I am just starting my career.
